About the Park

Discover Sariska

Tucked into the Aravalli hills of Alwar district in Rajasthan, Sariska Tiger Reserve is a hauntingly beautiful expanse of dry deciduous forest, sheer cliffs, and wide valleys that carry the silence of ancient India. Spanning 866 square kilometres, Sariska blends wild country with cultural heritage — the 6th-century Neelkanth temple ruins, the hilltop Kankwari Fort, and the sacred Pandupol Hanuman temple all lie within the reserve, lending every safari a sense of travelling through living history.

After a historic reintroduction programme, Sariska once again shelters a thriving population of Royal Bengal Tigers that roam its diverse zones with growing confidence. Leopard, wild dog, jungle cat, hyena, and four-horned antelope add depth to the predator guild, while large herds of sambar, chital, and nilgai sustain the food chain. The park’s varied topography — from dense teak forest to open grassland and rocky escarpments — creates a mosaic of habitats that rewards patient exploration. Sariska is quieter than Ranthambore, offering a more contemplative, exclusive safari atmosphere.

Popular Safari Zones & Highlights

  • Zone 1 (Kankwari) — The most sought-after circuit, encompassing the historic Kankwari Fort plateau with strong tiger and leopard activity.
  • Zone 2 (Pandupol) — Sacred temple country surrounded by forest; excellent for deer congregations and predator tracking.
  • Zone 3 (Talvriksh) — Waterhole-rich terrain with reliable wildlife sightings, particularly during dry months.
  • Zone 4 (Berushara) — Open grassland and scrub ideal for birdwatching and wild dog encounters.
  • Zone 5 (Naldeshwar) — Remote, hilly country favoured by leopards and sloth bears; a true wilderness experience.
  • Siliserh Lake (Buffer) — A picturesque reservoir on the park periphery, perfect for combining with a morning safari.

Best Time to Visit

October to June is the official safari season. Winter (November to February) offers crisp mornings and outstanding visibility through leafless deciduous forest. March to May is prime tiger season, as rising heat concentrates animals around the reserve’s limited water sources. The park is closed during monsoon (July to September).

How to Reach

By Air: Jaipur International Airport (JAI) is approximately 110 km from the reserve — a 2.5-hour drive through the Aravalli foothills.
By Rail: Alwar Junction is the nearest major station (36 km), with regular trains from Delhi and Jaipur.
By Road: Sariska is accessible via NH248 from Alwar or the Delhi–Jaipur highway, with smooth roads leading directly to the reserve gates.
